Two Affordable Toyota SUVs: 2023 Corolla Cross and 2022 C-HR, Starting Under $25K

Toyota is known for producing some of the most popular SUVs on the market, such as the Toyota RAV4 and the Highlander. However, if you’re in the market for a new Toyota SUV and have a budget of under $25,000, your options are limited.

Only two new Toyota SUV models have starting prices below this threshold: the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross and the 2022 Toyota C-HR.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross | Toyota

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross is the most affordable Toyota SUV, starting at $23,060. It uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to make 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque while achieving 31 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The Corolla Cross is a slightly larger version of the Toyota Corolla and comes in three different trim levels.

The Corolla Cross XLE, which starts at $28,465, is one of the best trims for the money, with features such as a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and SofTex-trimmed seats.

On the other hand, the 2022 Toyota C-HR starts at $24,280. However, it is not as well received as the Corolla Cross. MotorTrend claims that the subcompact SUV has huge blind spots and a lethargic engine, with a small cabin and cargo area.

The C-HR accelerates slowly, which takes away from the overall ownership experience. It is one of the least popular new Toyota SUVs.

When it comes to the best subcompact SUVs on the market, there are several options to consider. The 2023 Mazda CX-30 starts at $22,950, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. It achieves 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2023 Hyundai Kona starts at $22,140, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.

It gets 30 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway and is considered the most fun option in its segment. The 2023 Kia Soul starts at $19,890, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. It achieves 29 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway, making it the best affordable option.

In conclusion, while Toyota does produce some popular SUVs, only two new Toyota SUV models have starting prices below $25,000. The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross is the best option for those on a budget, while the 2022 Toyota C-HR is not as well received.

Other subcompact SUVs to consider include the 2023 Mazda CX-30, the 2023 Hyundai Kona, and the 2023 Kia Soul.
