Chevy Silverado EV Is Cooler Than Hummer EV – What’s Your Opinion?

As of the end of last year, the first buyers of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV had begun to receive their trucks. However, as all the first editions have been sold, those interested in purchasing an electric truck may be better off considering the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV. With a variety of trims and packages available, as well as a more affordable price than the GMC Hummer EV, the Chevrolet Silverado EV appears to be the better choice for most consumers.

The chassis for the General Motors electric truck platform is shared among several models, including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and GMC Hummer EV. This cost-saving measure allows for some overlap between the different models. While they share a common chassis, each truck has its own unique features that are exclusive to that particular model.

The Future Of Pickup Trucks

You may have noticed an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road recently, including the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2022 Rivian R1T, which were both delivered to customers last year. Tesla has also been promoting its upcoming Tesla Cybertruck, though its release date remains uncertain. There is a growing trend of electrifying traditional American workhorses, such as pickup trucks.

General Motors has announced plans to release a number of electric vehicles (EVs) over the next two years. Under the Chevrolet brand, consumers will have the option to choose from the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV, while GMC’s Sierra EV will also be available. These vehicles include both SUVs and trucks and offer utility features that make them worth considering.

The powertrain capabilities of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV vary greatly. The Silverado EV models, including the WT and RST, offer 510 horsepower, while the Hummer EV delivers 1000 horsepower.

Both the Silverado and Hummer EVs feature dual motors and an eAWD system, though the Hummer’s higher horsepower allows for a faster 0-60 time. The Silverado EV still boasts impressive acceleration, with a 0-60 time in the low 4-second range.

The towing and payload capacities of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV vary based on the powertrain package selected. The Silverado EV WT has a towing capacity of 8000 pounds and a payload of 1200 pounds, with an optional package available for up to 20,000 pounds of towing capacity.

The Silverado RST can tow up to 10,000 pounds and has a payload of 1400 pounds. The Hummer EV has a slightly lower towing capacity of 7500 pounds and a payload of 1300 pounds. The Silverado EV also allows for the use of Chevrolet’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving feature while towing.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV offers a range of 400 miles, which is 70 miles more than the GMC Hummer EV’s range of 330 miles.

The Silverado EV also includes the Mid-Gate feature, which allows for longer items to be placed in the bed by folding down a section of the bed’s wall.

With the Mid-Gate down, the bed can hold items up to 11 feet long, compared to the standard 6 feet with the Mid-Gate closed. This feature was previously available on the older Chevrolet Avalanche model.

When it comes to roof options, the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV offer different features that may appeal to different consumers. The Silverado EV features a panoramic roof, while the Hummer EV offers a fully removable top.

The Silverado EV also has an available air suspension that can adjust the vehicle’s height at the touch of a button and offers optional 24-inch wheels and rear steering. The Hummer EV, on the other hand, includes the exclusive CrabWalk feature, which is only available on GMC-branded trucks.

When comparing the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV, it’s important to consider what each vehicle offers and how it aligns with your individual needs and preferences.

The Hummer EV combines luxury with impressive power but only comes in one configuration. The Silverado EV, on the other hand, offers a range of trim options to better suit different lifestyles, including the off-road-focused Trail Boss package that is available on current models.

Ultimately, the choice between these two electric trucks will depend on your personal preferences and priorities.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV offers more trim options than the GMC Hummer EV, making it a more versatile choice for a wider range of customers. The Silverado EV WT (Work Truck) trim is aimed at fleet buyers, while the RST trim offers more luxurious features.

However, the Hummer EV’s higher price point of over $100,000 may be a deterrent for some buyers. In comparison, the base model Silverado EV WT has a starting price of around $41,000.

While the fully loaded Silverado EV RST seen in the video has a price of around $107,000, there will also be intermediate trim packages and options available for a lower price than the fully loaded model.

Chevrolet has not yet released any further details on these packages, but more information is expected to be announced in the near future.
